FAQs
What is the difference between Gel-X, Russian Manicure, and Gel Overlay.
Gel-X is a soft gel nail extension method using pre-formed tips that are applied directly to the natural nail, providing a lightweight and flexible alternative to traditional extensions. Russian Manicure is a precise nail preparation technique using an electric drill to meticulously clean and shape cuticles, focusing on creating an extremely clean and hygienic nail base before any polish or enhancement. Gel Overlay (aka Builder Gel or Structured Manicure) is a thin layer of gel applied over natural nails to protect, strengthen, and add shine without extending nail length, making it ideal for those wanting to enhance their existing nails without significant modification.
What makes a Russian manicure so high end?
A Russian manicure is the gold standard of nail care, celebrated for its unmatched precision. Using a specialized electric file, the cuticle area is refined to perfection, creating a pristine canvas for polish. This meticulous preparation ensures an immaculate, glass-smooth finish that wears beautifully and lasts longer than a traditional manicure. In the hands of a skilled technician, the service becomes more than just nail care. It’s an indulgent experience that embodies luxury, refinement, and lasting elegance.
I love gel overlays/builder gel but don’t want a Russian manicure. What’s the difference?
Gel overlays can be applied with or without a Russian manicure. A standard manicure will still give you the strength and shine of gel overlays but with a more traditional prep process. While a Russian manicure provides detailed cuticle care for a flawless, long-lasting finish, you can absolutely enjoy durable, beautiful gel overlays with a standard technique if you're more comfortable with that approach. Both options result in gorgeous nails, tailored to your preference!
*I’d like to note that I only do gel overlays with a Russian manicure.
Why should I choose gel overlays over dip or acyrlic?
Gel overlays offer versatility, strength, and a natural look without the bulk of dip or acrylics. I find that dip and acrylic can be very drying to the nails and lack flexibility. The added flexibility of gel reduces lifting and breaks, as it moves with the natural nails. Gel overlays are also fully customizable to each client and have a less bulky appearance than dip and acrylic.
How long will my nails last with your technique/method?
All of my services are made to last a minimum of 4 weeks. However, I recommend coming back in for a fresh set at the 3-4 week mark. As the natural nail grows, the apex shifts and is more prone to breakage at this mark. I prioritize retention and will always find the best products for your nail. Each experience is completely customized to fit your needs. Pop-offs and peeling is NOT the norm in my studio.
What if I don’t like the color I chose?
Sometimes you really want to go out of your comfort zone, and then realize that neon orange nails are not for you 5 days after your appointment . In this case, I do not offer a service to *only* change the color. All color changes will need to be a full manicure and overlay or extension service. This is not considered a fix or repair, as the quality of the nails is not the issue. Please let me know before curing your nails if you want to remove or change the color.
What happens if I do need a “fix”?
In the case that you have an issue with your nails, please let me know within 7 days of your service. All repairs are free of charge within the first 7 days. After this point, a nail fix will vary in price, depending on the length of time it will take.
Can I bring snacks?
I request that you do not bring snacks into the salon, as this is a shared space. It is very difficult to eat during manicure services, as both hands are occupied for the majority of the time. Oils from foods can rub onto the nails and hurt retention. For pedicures, snacks are fine, as long as they do not produce too strong of an odor or mess. Avoid bringing in meals and pastries (or any kind of snack that disintegrates into a million flakes).
Drinks are perfectly fine! I will also offer a complimentary beverage with every service.
How long is a typical appointment?
Appointments vary between 1.5-4 hours, depending on the complexity of the service or design. As a perfectionist, I will not compromise quality for speed. However, I am always working to make the experience as efficient and comfortable as possible.
What are the benefits of a waterless pedicure?
Waterless pedicures are the most sanitary and effective way to treat calluses in the nail industry. When skin is soaked in water, it swells and softens, making it easier for tools like “cheese graters” or pumice stones to remove too much skin. These traditional methods don’t just thin the skin — they often cause micro-cracks that lead to discomfort and, over time, make calluses come back even thicker.
With a Pododisc, callus removal can be fully customized to the client’s needs. Different grits are used for precision, allowing us to smooth specific areas or address cracks directly while sealing and protecting the surrounding skin. The result is soft, healthy feet that stay smooth for weeks.
When performed with proper technique, a dry pedicure is completely safe, free of heat or pain, and far less ticklish than traditional methods.
What should I avoid doing after my pedicure appointment?
For the first 4 days after your service, it’s important to treat your feet with extra care.
Skip the beach and hot sand: Sand naturally acts as an exfoliator, and combined with heat, it can open the skin’s surface, leading to tiny cracks and roughness around the heels.
Limit soaking: Extended time in water causes the outer skin to expand, which can reduce the smooth, refined results of your pedicure.
Avoid going barefoot: Protecting your feet helps lock in moisture, maintain softness, and keep your results lasting longer.
Do you accept tips?
All of my services include the “tip” in the total service price. If you are adamant about tipping, I will not refuse, but this will not be the standard in my salon.
How can I best preserve my pedicure until my next appointment?
For clients with more advanced foot concerns, I may recommend at-home “homework” to support faster recovery. I carry a curated selection of professional-grade products designed to target a wide range of symptoms and needs.
For everyone else, consistent hydration is key. Moisturizing your feet daily is the simplest and most effective way to maintain results. Each client receives personalized guidance tailored to their unique lifestyle and goals, ensuring the best long-term care.
